Jennifer Lawrence Says Discussing Donald Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Dividing the Nation Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she finds it inappropriate fitting to voice opinions regarding the Trump administration, fearing it could worsen polarizing arguments and increase separation within the country.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Notes Jennifer Lawrence
Speaking with media, the Oscar winner commented, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I believed I was running around without clear direction. But as we’ve learned, election after election, Hollywood stars do not make a difference in any way on voter decisions.”
The actor went on, “What’s the point? I’m just sharing my opinion on an issue that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart.”
Changing Allegiances
Jennifer Lawrence has spoken candidly about voting for both Republican and Democratic candidates throughout her life. Growing up with a right-leaning family in Kentucky, she supported John McCain in the 2008 election then moving to the left-leaning politics and stating she understood during President Obama’s term that voting Republican was undermining her personal freedoms as a female citizen.
Past Statements
Several years ago, she remarked that Donald Trump’s election could represent “the end of the world” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “as I think she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will make every effort to defend women’s health rights.”
Industry Position
Lawrence was joined by many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the minimal impact celebrities have over the voting intentions was underscored by his election win.
“This upcoming term feels different,” noted the actress of Trump’s presidency. “Because he stated his intentions. We knew what he did for four years. He was explicit. And that’s the option selected.”
New Release
Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting Die, My Love, Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she plays a young mom who deals with her emotional state in a remote area. At a media event for the project in Venice, Lawrence commented on the conflict in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s horrifying. What’s taking place is no less than a humanitarian crisis and it’s horrible.”
Wider Issues
The actress elaborated by saying that she was disheartened by “the lack of civility in the discussions of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be normalised to the kids today. It’s going to be typical to them that leaders are untruthful.”
She sought to redirect outrage about the issue to policymakers rather than celebrities. “Stay focused on those accountable,” she advised, seen by observers as a reference to the declaration endorsed by numerous arts community members to boycott certain cultural organizations.
Relatable Experiences
The actor, who received an Academy Award at a young age for her role in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her portrayal in the new film. Even though Lynne Ramsay has rejected the narrative being interpreted as one of postpartum depression and psychological distress, the actress said that she connected with parts of her character’s journey after the birth of her new baby, not long after filming concluded.
“I felt anxiety about my child,” she explained, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then doubting everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a treatment called the prescription and I continued it for two weeks and it made a difference.”
Professional Experiences
The actor also mentioned of the liberating necessity of completing nude scenes in the project while she was expecting and couldn’t work out.
“It feels nice,” she said, regarding the need to set aside self-consciousness. “Truly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What technically are the differences between myself and a sex worker? But it isn’t a major concern.”
